The ultrasonic flow meter is used for control measurements or to quickly detect the flow rate in a pipe, making it a portable and easy-to-install measuring system.
The ultrasonic flow meter operates using the transit time difference method. The flow meter's measurement principle is quite simple. In a diagonal measurement across a pipe, it takes less time to measure with the flow than against it. As the flow rate increases, it takes longer to measure against the flow and less time with it. The difference in transit time between the flow with and against the flow depends directly on the flow velocity. The flow meter uses this effect to determine the flow velocity and flow rate. Electroacoustic transducers receive and emit brief ultrasonic pulses through the medium flowing in the pipe.
The transducers are positioned vertically, offset from each other, on either side of the pipe being measured. The non-invasive sensors are placed on the pipe and secured, for example, with a clamp. The flow velocity is displayed on the screen in a short time. The ultrasonic flow meter can be used on metal, plastic, and rubber pipes.
