Surface speed radar
Contactless speed measurements and data analysis with Smartyplanet
Surface velocity radar is the ideal solution for non-contact measurements of surface flow velocity.
Its technology allows for quick and easy installation of the sensor on the water surface and requires minimal maintenance. It can be installed in rivers, canals, or pipelines.
The radars are robust and durable as they are designed to withstand adverse weather conditions.
The data measured by the surface speed radar are recorded and analyzed by the Smartyplanet web platform thanks to its full compatibility.

Applications
Technical characteristics
The Surface Velocity Radar uses radar technology to provide accurate non-contact measurement of flow velocity.
Its technology allows for quick and easy installation of the sensor on the water surface and requires minimal maintenance.
The flow meter is used to monitor the flow velocity of open channels such as rivers, irrigation canals, or sewage systems, and for monitoring and control of hydroelectric plants and wastewater treatment plants.
The radar operates in the K band and provides flow velocity readings 20 times per second over serial (RS-232, RS-485) and CAN interfaces.
It is designed to operate in two modes that can be configured via PC control:
- In regular mode, the radar provides speed readings 20 times per second on open channels.
- In low-power mode, however, the radar provides one speed reading per second with the same accuracy as in regular mode.
The sensor takes readings by measuring the inclination angle using an integrated sensor, and the flow velocity measurement is automatically cosine-corrected according to the measured mounting inclination angle.
The radar sensor is certified according to European and American standards.
Radar configuration software
Smartyplanet provides easy-to-configure RSS-2-300 Water Flow Radar Configurator software for free.
The software connects to the RSS-2-300 W radar via the serial port and can be used to configure the radar's operating parameters. In addition, the Configurator utility also displays the measured flow velocity over time. It allows users to change the output data protocol, modify and configure various measurement and averaging algorithms, and control radar pointing.
The RSS-2-300 Waterflow Radar Configurator runs on Windows XP or later, both 32-bit and 64-bit.
